Alpha Academy

by admin on March 21st, 2011

Under the leadership of Bro. Richmond Hill, Alpha Academy has generated tremendous buzz through some amazing events during the 2010-2011 academic year! The dedicated Brothers of XAL directly work with approximately 20 young scholars every other Saturday at the Potomac Middle School. The Brothers serve as mentors and teachers on topics such as the definition of manhood, fiscal responsibility, preparation for high school and college, healthy relationships and friendships, self-esteem, and a myriad of other life skills.

On Saturday, March 19th from 10:00am-12:30pm, the Brothers of XAL discussed having a positive self image and how to properly present and market themselves as positive young black and Hispanic males. The students learned how to “Dress for Success” by learning how to tie neckties, iron clothes, shine shoes, properly dress for school and formal occassions, etiquette, and so forth. The group also spent time covering some important aspects of one-on-one and public speaking and communication skills.

The weekend entertained an additional feature for the Chapter and for the young men. Alpha Academy hosted a writer and photographer from the Potomac Newspaper who observed the session in order to write an article on the work that is being done in Woodbridge.

Please note the upcoming important dates for Alpha Academy:
